Panama Cruise Ship Terminal

Kalzip covers the new cruise ship terminal in Panama City.

With a total area of 20,000 sqm, the new Panama Cruise Terminal is to become one of the most important cruise ports on the tourism routes of the American Pacific. Thus contribute significantly to the growth of tourism in the Republic of Panama. The planned project by the architectural office MALLOL Arcitectos allows berthing of two cruise ships with up to 5,000 passengers each. Two large ships with a length of up to 380 metres/1,247 feet each can dock at one of the two piers.

The terminal itself is located directly on the Amador Causeway in Panama City, near the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. The construction of the terminal will enable a new 14-day South Pacific route for cruise ship operators.

The heart of the terminal is the large roof with more than 16,000 sqm of Kalzip 65/400 aluminium profiled sheets with a material thickness of 0.9 mm. The special feature is the Kalzip profiled sheets coating (PVDF in the colour Dark Pastel Green Metallic). This coating contributes to an architectural highlight of the terminal.

The roof structure of the cruise terminal is designed as a triangle. In aerial view the entire architecture, including the two piers, looks like an arrow.

Kempegowda International Airport

Kempegowda International Airport — Terminal 2

Kalzip supplies material for the «Garden City of India».

The new Terminal T2 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangaluru, India, was designed as a garden in the Garden Concept. After completion of the first construction phase, it will be around 255,000 square meters in size and connect travelers with nature. Trees, small gardens and ponds with local and exotic plant species form the interior.

Plant bells hang from the ceiling at the entrance, at check-in and at the security checkpoint. Beyond these rooms, a large indoor garden with waterfalls will form the gateway to the sales rooms.

The shopping area is connected to the gates by the terminal’s characteristic room — a huge, three-storey «forest belt» designed to create a soothing nature experience for departing and arriving passengers. The materials for the interior are designed close to nature.

Designed as a roof, the roof consists of 11 fields and a supporting ceiling, acoustic panel, insulation panel, sealing line and Kalzip 65 / 400 to meet the acoustic and thermal requirements according to LEED. The roof is interspersed with 195 skylights to allow natural daylight. Kalzip is very proud to contribute to an innovative and renowned project like this.

The roof structure of the SD135/310 (overstretched 3000 mm c/c, in the color Benjamin Moore 1110) is in line with the open bamboo ceiling.

Pavilion with floating roof in Graz

Roof or aircraft wing?

The building is a showroom for a manufacturer of window elements. The main goal for the architect was to create an inviting entrance area. The showroom itself is a steel construction. The wall surfaces are formed by large window elements. This gives the roof construction the impression of floating above the building.

Roof

The roof is also made of a steel substructure. The curved shape of the top and bottom makes the viewer standing to the side of the building think it is the wing of an aeroplane. The impression is supported by the type of roofing with Kalzip, an aluminium roofing. It has a ribbon-shaped design and is excellently suited to take on such shapes as roofing material. The roof surface is drained via an intermediate structure to the adjacent outbuilding.
