KEIMSTRASSE SPORTS HALL IN WALLDÜRN
MODERN SPORTS HALL MEETS STATE LOOK
The newly built Keimstraße sports hall in Walldürn provides the neighbouring primary school and local sports clubs with a modern training hall.
Even from the outside, the building makes an impression: modern design meets traditional materials. A large part of the façade is clad in wood from regional forests. The side roof cladding is done with foldable aluminium. The galvanised and pre-weathered Dark FalZinc shingles from Kalzip in matt slate grey provide a contrast to the wooden surface.
Martin Haas, project manager at Link Architekten, comments: “We wanted to link the design of the new sports hall with the historic primary school. The primary school has a mansard roof, which is covered with fibre cement panels, now weathered grey. So it seemed obvious to use fibre cement panels as roof cladding for the sports hall as well, but we found the smooth black surface difficult. By chance, I came across a publication about a cladding with shingles made of foldable aluminium in the colour Dark FalZinc from Kalzip. I immediately realised that if we could implement this cladding, we would have solved the problem, because the dark surface would have exactly the desired effect.”
