DETACHED HOUSE Ausschnitt von Freudenberg DETACHED HOUSE

Project of the Month

Detached house in Freudenberg

Double gable roof for a modern timber house

A family in Freudenberg has fulfilled their dream of owning a home with a large timber house surrounded by nature. The design is by the architectural firm Kaldewey, Wortmann, Architekten Partnerschaftsgesellschaft mbB. The elongated, single-storey building impresses with its understated yet striking design. Both in terms of its cubature and the choice of materials used, it blends harmoniously into the landscape. The façade in particular shapes the character of the house: characterised by vertically arranged wooden slats, the façade contributes significantly to the natural look of the house. The material wood gives the otherwise rigid structure a lively texture and creates a warm, natural impression. In addition, the wood reflects the colours of the surrounding nature and connects architecture and landscape.

Form follows function

However, the architectural leitmotif of the house is the roof: the two adjoining gable roof surfaces create an up-and-down movement in cross-section. This dynamic form picks up on the gentle rises and falls of the hilly surroundings and translates them into architecture.

A ventilated roof system with seamless standing seam panels of type AF 65/434 was used for the roof covering. The aluminium profiles are coated with a high-performance coating in a dark grey-brown with a low gloss level. The matt, slightly subdued colour tone blends discreetly into the natural surroundings and underlines the calm, high-quality overall impression of the building.

The widely projecting gable ends are particularly striking. They reveal parts of the wooden roof structure and deliberately emphasise the handcrafted character of the house. At the same time, the generous roof overhangs create sheltered outdoor areas that extend the living space outside.

Precise craftsmanship in roof construction

Borau Dach GmbH from Lüdenscheid was commissioned to carry out the roof work. The skilled craftsmen first erected a wooden formwork with underlay as a basis for further construction. System-compatible E-clips were then mounted on top of this to serve as a fastening base for the profiled panels.

The roof structure was designed as a ventilated system. The integrated ventilation layer ensures that moisture is reliably removed and at the same time supports the building’s thermal insulation throughout the year. The standing seam profiled panels could then be laid quickly and economically on the E-clips. The low dead weight of the aluminium roof system also has the advantage of allowing additional load reserves. These can be used, for example, for the later installation of a photovoltaic system – an important aspect for the long-term energy use of the house.

Architecture between nature and craftsmanship

The detached house in Freudenberg combines modern architecture with traditional materials and precise craftsmanship. The combination of a wooden façade, striking roof shape and metallic roof covering creates a building that appears both contemporary and rooted in the landscape. The result is a residential building that does not overwhelm nature, but consciously blends into it.

Thoughtfully considered. KALZIP.
