Gymnase Alice Milliat in Choisy-le-Roi

Sweeping roof, smooth facade

The Gymnase Alice Milliat in Choisy-le-Roi, France, offers local gymnastics clubs plenty of space to practise various sports. Special attention was paid during the planning phase to integrating the building into the surrounding neighbourhood. The entire site was designed with running tracks as well as an accessible play hill for pedestrians and families.

The building itself is also interesting for passers-by: the matt silver smooth sheet metal façade creates a uniform surface appearance. The gentle curves in the eaves, on the other hand, help to break up the strict cubature. The shape and orientation of the roof influences the way the light falls on the surrounding buildings.

Division of the building

If you look at the building from above, you can clearly recognise the targeted division into different functional areas. The unusual shape of the roof also catches the eye: the ridge runs from one corner of the hall to the diagonally opposite point, which varies in height. Both the ridge and the two triangular roof surfaces thus take on a concave curvature. Kalzip worked closely with MARS architects to calculate the geometry of the roof in order to achieve the desired architectural image.

A roof system from Kalzip was used. Firstly, the roof structure was insulated with appropriate roof insulation in order to influence both the climatic conditions within the hall and to ensure sound insulation. The standing seam profiled sheets in the dimensions 65/400 in the natural AluPlusPatina surface create a clear interplay of lines and blend into the surroundings in terms of colour.

Made from the same aluminium material and also with the AluPlusPatina surface finish, the Kalzip FC façade helps to preserve the architectural unity of the project. At the same time the panels in the profile type FC 30/500 ensure an unagitated evenness in the façade appearance. Designed as a ventilated rainscreen façade, the system enables safe, quick and easy installation thanks to a patented click system.

Considered with care. KALZIP.
