Construction Site of the Week
Old First House, Philadelphia
A residential building with 34 low-cost flats for formerly homeless people is being built in the Old City neighbourhood of Philadelphia. The project, called ‘Old First House’, is sponsored by Community Ventures, Depaul USA and the neighbouring Old First Reformed United Church of Christ and serves as a model for integrative housing concepts.
The modern building is not only functional, but also architecturally appealing: It features the innovative FC façade system as its outer shell. This is characterised by high flexibility and durability. Depending on the section of the building, the aluminium panels are installed either vertically or horizontally, giving the façade a dynamic yet harmonious appearance. The grey-matt surfaces ensure a uniform and timeless overall appearance that blends in perfectly with the urban surroundings. In addition to the aesthetic design, particular emphasis is placed on sustainability and energy efficiency in order to offer residents a comfortable and future-proof home.
