Grand Opening
The Superdome opens in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 3, 1975. It is the world’s largest domed stadium, accommodating up to 80,000 spectators—a true technical and architectural masterpiece.
WITH THE LOUISIANA SUPERDOME, KALZIP® MAKES HISTORY IN SPORTS AND ARCHITECTURE
Opened in 1975, the Louisiana Superdome remains the largest dome structure in the world. Following the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Kalzip played a crucial role in restoring this architectural marvel.
Kalzip developed an innovative facade system tailored specifically to the Superdome’s demanding requirements. The facade features 85,000 square meters of aluminum, not only perfectly replicating the building’s original appearance but also withstanding extreme weather conditions. Thanks to Kalzip FC’s bi-directional concealed fastening technology, aluminum profiles could be installed from both bottom to top and top to bottom, enabling rapid and flexible assembly.

One of the standout features of the Kalzip system is its flexibility—individual panels can be removed and replaced without affecting adjacent panels or the overall facade design. This capability proved essential during the restoration, enabling efficient and cost-effective maintenance.
The facade panels were engineered to withstand extremely high wind loads, ensuring the safety and longevity of the Superdome. By April 2010, the renovations were complete, and the Superdome once again shone in its renewed brilliance. Kalzip’s innovative solutions have ensured the Superdome’s status as an iconic venue for major events, including the upcoming Super Bowl LIX in 2025.
