The Kalzip FC Façade System meets the requirements of BR 135:2013 Annex B
Recent international fire incidents have highlighted that fire safety is not determined by the cladding material alone. Instead, the performance of the entire façade system—including the cladding, substructure, insulation and fixings—must be considered.
For this reason, the Kalzip FC Façade System was tested under realistic conditions at the accredited fire laboratory of Efectis UK & Ireland Ltd.
Individual construction products can be tested in laboratory conditions.
However, in a real building, all façade components interact as one complete system.
Large-scale fire tests are therefore becoming increasingly important, allowing engineers and designers to evaluate the fire performance of the complete façade assembly under realistic conditions.
The Kalzip FC Façade System was installed in accordance with the required test configuration.
A controlled fire scenario was created to assess the behaviour of the complete façade system during a realistic fire event.
The assessment included:
Structural Performance Test
The roof system was subjected to high static air pressure differences to simulate the uplift forces generated during extreme wind events.
Impact Resistance Test
The system was then tested for its ability to withstand impacts from debris carried by hurricane-force winds.
Wind-Driven Rain Test
Finally, the roof was evaluated for water penetration while exposed simultaneously to heavy rain and strong crosswinds.
The Kalzip FC Façade System successfully passed the large-scale fire test.
The tested façade system achieved compliance with:
BR 135:2013 Annex B
This classification confirms the fire performance of the tested façade system under the specified test conditions.
For architects, façade consultants, developers and building owners, this provides confidence when specifying façade systems for projects where fire safety is a critical design consideration.
Requirements for façade systems continue to evolve.
Alongside aesthetics, sustainability and energy performance, independently verified fire performance has become an essential part of façade specification.
Large-scale system testing provides valuable technical evidence and supports informed decision-making during the design process.
The fire test was carried out with the support of Monami Construction.
Partnerships like these contribute to the continuous development of safer, more resilient façade systems for modern architecture.
By successfully completing this large-scale fire test, the Kalzip FC Façade System demonstrates its suitability for projects where architectural quality, durability and fire performance are equally important.
Kalzip Insights shares technical expertise, research findings and independent testing to support architects and designers in making informed decisions.
Because confident specification begins with verified system performance.
