The demands placed on educational buildings are increasing – not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of design. Kalzip’s TF 37/800 R is a profiled aluminium façade that addresses precisely these issues: it offers an expressive, rhythmic appearance and high robustness, while also being made from sustainable materials. Particularly in school buildings, where building envelopes are exposed to greater mechanical stress – whether from play, sport or vandalism – this façade impresses with its unrivalled resistance.
Kalzip is now bringing something that is normally only intended for indoor sports halls to the outdoors: ball impact resistance at a whole new level. In collaboration with the professional basketball players of EPG Baskets Koblenz, the TF 37/800 R was put through its paces – with real plays, real balls and real forces. And the result? Impressive stability with no visible damage. If the façade can withstand the throws of a professional team, then it can also withstand those in the school playground.
DIN 18032-3 defines standards for ball impact resistance in indoor areas – but practice shows that this quality is also in demand in outdoor areas. Kalzip is innovatively transferring this standard to the outer skin of buildings.
The aluminium used is not only lightweight and corrosion-resistant, but also extremely resource-efficient with a recycling content of up to 90%. The TF 37/800 R is therefore not only a statement in terms of design and protection, but also an active contribution to CO₂ reduction in the construction industry – a strong argument in the discussion about sustainable school architecture.
A concrete example of the successful use of TF 37/800 R is the Mühlauschule school in Trittau. Architect Jan Braker deliberately chose this façade – including the exclusive AluPlusPatina Bronze B40 finish. The warm, metallic sheen of this colour gives the educational building a high-quality, almost sculptural character and adds a confident architectural accent to the urban space. A façade that makes an impact from a distance – and impresses in detail.
Kalzip TF 37/800 R opens up new perspectives for the design of robust and aesthetic school buildings. It combines architectural quality with functional added value – and proves that sustainability, safety and design do not have to be contradictory. For planners who want to set new standards in educational buildings.
‘We like the TF façade system because of its timeless appearance and high stability combined with low weight. This makes it suitable for both new and old building projects. At the Mühlauschule, the building envelope of the new building was prepared in such a way that it can be seamlessly extended when the old building is renovated at a later date. The TF façade system is ideal for this purpose.’
