Falzinc enhances The Arthaus
Nearly 1,500 sqm of Kalzip’s cost-effective Falzinc foldable aluminium building material has been installed by All Metal Roofing on the walls and roof of The Arthaus, a unique development of stylish apartments and mixed use commercial floor space located in the chic new boutique area of Hackney. Designed by Lynas Architecture, this new build / renovation project was built for Findon Homes by Sheldon Construction Services.
“Falzinc is a lightweight, robust and malleable aluminium material that’s easy to handle and quick to install by carefully forming into traditional raised seams. It’s also a very strong and durable building material that has the attractive and highly distinctive external appearance of pre-weathered zinc which mellows gracefully over time, thereby providing end users with the best of both metals,” says All Metal Roofing’s Peter Flood.

Teamkal Awards winners 2011
Fowler McKenzie not only scooped the celebrated ‘Teamkal Contractor of the Year’ award but also claimed the ‘Best Kalzip project under 1,500 sqm’ and ‘Best use of Fabrications’ awards for the New Pro Centre, Carnoustie Golf Links.
The futuristic Slough Bus Station and impressive Velodrome and Aquatics Centre projects in London were also among the top accolades at Kalzip’s recent annual Teamkal Conference & Awards ceremony.

Over 1,200 sqm of Kalzip’s aluminium standing seam roofing system, including 1,000 sqm of revolutionary Kalzip XT profile and smooth curved sheets have been installed on the impressive new Slough Bus Station. bblur Architecture was responsible for the futuristic design concept and delivery of this iconic building on behalf of their client, Slough Borough Council for use by local bus operators.

Kalzip’s solar solutions certified
Kalzip’s AluPlusSolar and SolarClad solutions have been approved under the internationally recognised quality assurance Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and they have also gained the British Standards Institute’s (BSI) world-renowned and trusted Kitemark - Certificate No: KM 558106. The UK Government is using MCS as a yardstick to ascertain which microgeneration installations are eligible for financial incentives (Feed-in Tariffs) under their Clean Energy Cashback scheme.
The MCS acknowledges microgeneration technology products such as Kalzip’s AluPlusSolar and SolarClad solutions that produce electricity from renewable energy sources. Importantly, MCS is linked with financial incentives that enable end-user customers to make cost-savings by generating their own ‘free’ energy.

Curvy Kalzip’s just the ticket
Over 1,000sqm of convex and concave smooth curved Kalzip aluminium standing seam roof sheets have been installed on the impressive new Pudsey Bus Station by experienced Teamkal contractor, KGM Roofing Ltd. Built by Allenbuild Ltd for Metro, the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, this futuristically designed canopy roof is attractively finished all round with a continuous ‘true’ curved bull-nosed fascia, also from Kalzip.
Convex taper-curved to a 10 metre radii, the Kalzip sheets form full semicircles on-plan at both ends of the roof - and with Metro keen to have an aesthetically pleasing underside to the bus station’s canopy, the soffits were ingeniously created by using a similar combination of downward facing concave curved Kalzip sheets.

Kalzip’s BBA Certificate revised
Kalzip’s BBA Certificate No: 98/3841 has been revised and is now far more comprehensive than the original version. It is presented as two separate product sheets covering the Kalzip Liner Roof System and Kalzip Deck Roof System - this allows for the addition of different Kalzip systems at a later date. Covering all of Kalzip’s profiles, this revised version is in the BBA’s new, easier to follow format which makes the search for information much quicker and more convenient for the user.
The newly revised document is also handily cross-referenced to Kalzip’s Falzinc & AluPlusZinc BBA Certificate (No: 08/4571) and to that of Euramax Aluminium Coated Products Limited (No: 93/2922).

Kalzip introduces new handrail systems
Kalzip has introduced a new range of high quality aluminium handrail systems - the ‘freestanding’ Kalzip Versirail System and the ‘fixed’ Kalzip Handrail System - to provide Collective Fall Protection and improve safety conditions for people working at height on Kalzip standing seam roofs. These handrail systems can be used independently, in combination with each other and in conjunction with any Kalzip walkway system to suit individual project requirements.

Kalzip FC rainscreen’s innovative bi-directional installation capability (top down / bottom up) allows flexible project scheduling where on-site requirements such as scaffolding or subsequent construction work can be coordinated independently of the fixing process. Kalzip XT solution for Newport Station
Over 1,000 individual Kalzip aluminium standing seam sheets have been installed on Network Rail’s stunningly designed new station at Newport, South Wales. As well as straight, tapered and smooth curved Kalzip sheets, many revolutionary Kalzip XT profile sheets of various shapes and sizes were used for significant parts of the link footbridge and concourse buildings where the aluminium cladding is curved both on plan and in section.

Midair manufacturing by Kalzip
Kalzip has introduced an on-site production facility which uses a portable roll-former suspended from a crane to manufacture aluminium standing seam sheets where they’re wanted - up on the roof. This creatively engineered midair manufacturing solution is fast, efficient, extremely safe and very versatile as the roll-former can be quickly repositioned to produce long sheets of Kalzip anywhere around the building or site.

Corus starts transition to Tata Steel name
Corus (of which Kalzip Ltd is a part) is adopting Tata Steel as its new identity from today, 27th September 2010. Corus joined the Tata Steel family in April 2007 in a transaction that created one of the world’s largest steelmakers with a major presence in Europe as well as Asia. Like Corus and its predecessors, Tata Steel has a long and successful history, having pioneered the first integrated steelworks in India a century ago.

Kalzip covers Colchester Garrison

Kalzip covers Pendle Vale College
Over 7,700 sqm of Kalzip aluminium standing seam roofing sheets were specified by Capita Architecture for the striking new Pendle Vale College in Nelson, Lancs. Kalzip is an extremely versatile system and well able to meet the demands of this roof design which included achieving a U-value of 0.15 W/m²K.
Part of the government’s Building Schools for the Future programme, Pendle Vale College is owned and managed by Catalyst Lend Lease under a 25-year PFI agreement and Lancashire County Council is the tenant. The college was built by Bovis Lend Lease and all the Kalzip flashings, fascias and 0.9mm gauge standard stucco embossed roofing sheets were installed by Teamkal contractor, Lakesmere Ltd.

Kalzip has developed a new dual-insulation roof system that achieves U-values as low as 0.09 W/m²K. This technically proven, low U-value roof system is extremely cost effective and utilises the combined benefits of two complementary types of insulation materials - mineral fibre quilt and Kalzip Insulation 23 high performance rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) board. Combining these two insulation material enables a significantly greater overall thermal resistance to be achieved compared with using just a single layer of mineral fibre of the same thickness.
